South American rather than Antarctic penguins. They nest on the Falkland Islands off Argentina, as well as along the coasts of Chile and Argentina.

Magellanic Penguins sometimes nest above ground among tussock grasses, but in clay soils they will dig burrows and nest underground. This species pursues schools of anchovies, sardines, and squid in the ocean.

I didn't see enough Magellans to get much of a sense of their lives, but I did observe one behavior that struck me. On the beach, a male wrapped its head and neck up and over the female in a very tight courtship embrace. True love.
